Scholarship (#1) – PhD

Individual (or granular) modelling of reserves

The Chair is looking for a doctoral student to do a thesis in the field of individual reserve modeling. While in the past, insurance companies used provisioning models based on aggregate data, insurance company databases now contain accurate information on each claim. This allows an individual analysis of each claim and requires the use of granular provisioning models.

The main objective of the thesis would be to develop or adapt appropriate statistical models on granular databases in order to identify relevant approaches to the calculation of reserves.

To apply, send a cover letter, a CV, a transcript and two letters of reference to Mathieu Pigeon,

Scholarship (#2) – PhD

Modeling and processing of telematic data in automobile insurance

With the advent of geolocation systems on cars, and on-board computers that compile and record various telemetric data potentially relevant to analyzing driving quality, we believe that the insurance industry is undergoing a revolution that can change the theoretical and practical foundations of actuarial pricing significantly.

The objective of the thesis would be to see how this large quantity of information measuring the quality of each insured’s driving behaviour makes it possible to better understand claims experience and better segment risk.
